Business Results
Market Outlook
- The global space market is expected to grow to USD 371 billion, or KRW 423 trillion, in size by 2020. The satellite market valued at USD 276 billion accounts for 73% of the space market, whereas the non-satellite market accounts for the remaining 27% at USD 100.7 billion. The value chain of the satellite industry is divided into (1) ground equipment, (2) satellite services, (3) satellite bus manufacturing, and (4) launch vehicles, with ground equipment (50.0%) such as satellite navigation equipment and satellite services (43.5%) such as TV and radio accounting for 93.5% of the total. The satellite era is expected to drive the growth of the space industry, and the market size of the space industry in the satellite era is projected to grow to USD 1.1 trillion (approx. KRW 1,286 trillion) by 2040. The market for small satellites, in particular, is projected to grow to USD 51.3 billion (KRW 59 trillion). It is expected that the declining costs in the satellite industry will result in improved affordability and sustainability, thereby further driving demand and supply in the space industry in the long run.
Commercialization Plans
-
- Intelligence to operate thousands of satellites : As a company that has specialized in the operation of national satellites, such as Chollian and Arirang satellites, IOPS has in possession operational solutions for all stages of satellite operation from initial operation to normal operation that are not limited by satellite size, orbit, and characteristics. It is currently carrying out test and utilization missions for satellites that are set to be launched, as well as missions to operate the Korea Augmentation Satellite System (KASS), and plans to expand its business scope to include civil satellite operation services by building its own ground stations. After 2024, IOPS will build the necessary infrastructure for satellite control and provide total satellite services through AI-based satellite image analysis services and the operation of communication and GPS satellites.
